Headgear

Headgear is used to treat patients whose teeth are in an overjet, with the uppers forward of the lowers. Headgear gently pulls on your teeth to restrict further forward growth of your upper teeth and jaw. Headgear is generally worn 12-14 hours per day, during the evening hours at home and while sleeping.

Instructions

• DO wear the wire facebow and headgear system as directed by your doctor.
• DO detach the wire facebow from the headgear strap before the wire facebow is place in or removed from the mouth. If used improperly, the tips of the wire inner bow can cause injury.
• DON'T attempt to adjust, put on or remove the wire facebow with headgear straps still connected.
• DON'T allow other people to pull on, play with or snap the wire facebow while it is in your mouth.
• DON'T wear the wire facebow when taking part in any sporting activity unless permission is received from your doctor.
